Here at D.R.A.W we have always worked remotely, either at home or in our co-working space. With many people adjusting to working from home we thought that we would share some things that we have learnt along the way.
Prepare yourself for working from home by making sure you have somewhere to work, the kitchen table works well if you do not have a desk or office space. Make sure all laundry, washing up etc is out of sight and that your work space is tidy so as not to distract you.
Start the day positively by using your commuting time to go for a run, walk or do some gentle exercise at home. Get up and get dressed as if you were going to the office, or at least stay smart from the waist up in preparation for video calls.
Hide the biscuits! Alternatively stock up on healthy snacks to break the day up.
Make sure you take your lunch break away from your laptop/computer/phone. If possible get some fresh air – go for a walk, sit in the garden/on the balcony, open a window.
Remember to check in with your colleagues for a chat, working at home can be lonely but your colleagues are all in the same boat. Strong team communication is important always but particularly when you are not in the same physical space.
And in the current climate:
Try to avoid checking news sites and turn off news notifications on your phone (unless your job requires them).
Our consultant Kate suggests listening to calming whale music whilst you work but we will leave that one up to you!
