Job description:

Our client, an established gallery for contemporary art, is looking for an Artist Liaison. The Artist Liaison will work with several internationally renowned artists represented by the gallery. The jobholder will work independently under the direction of the Artist Liaison Directors and in close collaboration with the gallery’s production team, as well as the artists and artist studios.

The main areas of responsibility encompass the following:

  • Artist Liaison for specific artists represented by the gallery: developing and maintaining long-term relationships with the artists, with the perspective of building their artistic development and career
  • Coordinate projects with artists and their studios for exhibitions (internal & external exhibitions) and fairs
  • Establishing intensive relationship with the artists and providing a supportive structure
  • Selection and procurement of works of art for sale
  • Inventory Management and Sales preparation of artworks in database
  • Mediation and promotion of artists with curators, museums and institutions
  • Mediation of artists to collectors and collections, and development of gallery clientele
  • Travel on behalf of the gallery to attend exhibition openings of specific artists

Administration:

  • Project and budget management for internal and external exhibitions and special projects of specific artists
  • Liaison with the gallery’s Production, Registrar, Content and Sales Teams to prepare new works for sale
  • Maintenance of gallery inventory, including loans and consignments
  • Monitoring and approving of database entries of respective artworks
  • Preparation of sales material
  • Close collaboration with the Artist Account Manager to prepare the statements for the artist invoices
  • Preparation of yearly Artist Account overview
  • Filing documents: on server and physical binders

Skills and requirements:

  • Several years’ experience of working in the fields of Artist Liaison or Curator in a Gallery, Museum, Institution, or an Artist’s Studio
  • Ability to travel
  • The jobholder must be highly structured and have excellent communication and organisational skills with the ability to see projects through to completion
  • Ability to work well both as part of a team and independently, under own direction
  • Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Experience in project management

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor´s degree in art, art history or comparable course of studies – Master´s degree preferred
  • Fluent in German and English
  • Extended knowledge of the broader German cultural field
  • Proficiency in basic computing, including Microsoft Office software and database management software
