Our client, an international contemporary gallery, is seeking an experienced Bookshop and Editions Manager in Brussels. The manager will oversee all Editions and Bookshop activities with responsibility for scheduling, delivery, and profitability of all projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for submitting art fair applications and regularly interact with clients, artists, and gallery staff in other locations.

Role and Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities: Manage and coordinate all activities related to online and brick-and-mortar sales of Editions and Bookshop inventory, including client relationship management, P&L management and reconciliation, artist commissions and production, digital advertising, and social media campaigns.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Establish, oversee, and implement Editions/Bookshop calendar, budgets, and P&Ls of projects and releases in close collaboration with Senior Graphic Designer, Program Coordinator, Bookkeeper, and top management for final approval
  • Maintains and updates Shop website and social media accounts (Instagram) in alignment with and to complement the Gallery’s global digital strategy
  • Independently conduct point of sales transactions with clients for the gallery’s limited editions and bookshop
  • Raise invoices, process payments, arrange shipping, resolve client disputes and refunds
  • Initiate and manage Editions production efforts with artists including reporting all costs to Bookkeeper, insuring artists share are paid in full and on a timely basis, and ensuring artists consignment agreements/contracts are signed and on file for all Edition projects
  • Coordinate photography of editions and books for website, social media, and other marketing platforms
  • Work closely with Bookkeeper and Global Managing Director to set annual budget, report monthly financial performance, and provide end-of-year activity and performance report
  • Create gallery’s post mailing and email campaigns, managing client distribution lists in Artlogic, writing/editing content, obtaining management approval, and reporting performance metrics on a quarterly basis
  • Manage application process, plan, organize and attend Art Book & Editions fairs, issue final P&L
  • Manage Brussels Gallery art fair applications and logistical matters in close collaboration with Registrar and Directors
  • Ensure all gallery Shop databases are up to date and accurate including upload/download of images, client profiles, artwork details, and exhibition/project information
  • Cultivate clients who cross over from Editions purchases into primary market sales as first contact, where appropriate and with the support and approval of top management
  • Interviews, hires, and manages activities of all gallery shop activities (e.g: intern)

Person Specification:

  • Previous experience in a similar role
  • Fluent in English and French (Flemish is a plus!)
  • Able to work as part of a team and independently
  • Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to travel regularly to Brussels should candidate be based in Paris or Monaco
