Job description:

An experienced Content and Communications Manager is required to support the Director of Communications and Head of Editorial and Digital Content in content creation to promote the gallery’s international programme of activities. You will be part of a dynamic team responsible for a wide range of initiatives to promote the gallery and its artists’ work. The candidate will be a strong writer, with demonstrated skill in research and writing about art along with copy editing and proofing.

The Role:

Working closely with the Director of Communications and Head of Editorial and Digital Content, the role will focus on content and communications activities across the gallery.  The successful candidate will play an essential role around the creation, production, maintenance, and distribution of communications content such as social media, and website content. The role will also make contributions to research, data and reporting, advertising and promotional plans, social media, and other initiatives related to promoting the gallery and its artists.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Produce content for a range of assets including, but not limited to, promotional collateral, social media posts, emails, and gallery website
  • Write, design and schedule emails, including regular newsletters and programme-specific announcements for exhibitions, art fairs, book launches, talks and events
  • Maintain the editorial communications calendar for the gallery’s work with artists and external partners to ensure the content-rich environment of the gallery and their artists captured and shared
  • With the gallery’s social media consultant devise creative strategies to grow and diversify the gallery’s social media following
  • Compile and distribute communications reports and analysis within the gallery and to artists
  • Respond to incoming enquiries from press with the Director of Communications
  • When required oversee logistics for onsite press interviews, journalist visits, photographers, and film crews
  • Search Engine Optimisation monitoring and reporting
  • Monitor press coverage and request corrections where appropriate
  • Create, and schedule production of material for collateral such as invitations, posters and leaflets
  • Assist when required with a print and digital press campaigns, with the Director of Communications and the gallery’s external PR company.

Run the day-to-day administration of the communications office with the support of the Press and Design Co-ordinator including:  

  • Point of contact for communication and marketing emails
  • Updating and maintaining the press database
  • Managing the filing of press cuttings and digital scans
  • Dealing with requests for press images, footage and press information
  • Maintain and update extensive press list database; develop tailored press lists to support PR campaigns and monitor, flag new press contacts for the team.

Person Specification:

The Content and Communications Manager will be a strong writer, with demonstrated skill in research and writing about art along with copy editing and proofing. Candidate will possess an enthusiasm for collaborating with others, the ability to multi-task and be nimble, and to produce excellent work creatively and quickly.  The candidate must be extremely organised and detail-oriented and have excellent communication, and interpersonal skills with experience of working across departments and teams and with artists.

Essential Criteria:

  • Proven experience of research, copywriting and editing about art
  • Proven marketing experience
  • Practical experience of working with agencies, suppliers, and partners
  • Experience of working with web content management systems
  • Strong visual sense
  • Educated to degree level, preferably in arts or humanities subject (BA required)

Desirable but not Essential:

  • Experience with Art Logic CMS
  • Good working knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop
  • Experience using analytical tools like Google Analytics
  • Experience of working in an international gallery and with artists is preferred
