Our Client, a London-based advisor and a leading expert in the field of European antiques and art for more than 30 years, is looking for a Dealership Administrator. He provides independent advice and expertise to buyers of French, English, Italian, Russian furniture and related items such as decorative objects, gilt bronzes, porcelain, pietra dura, silver and rugs from the 16th through the 19th centuries.

The Dealership works actively with private collectors, interior designers and museums searching for potential acquisitions throughout the world at auction, with dealers and in private collections, authenticating and evaluating the pieces and negotiating or bidding on behalf of  clients. Restoration, upholstery and shipping as well as a full range of personal curatorial services are also offered.

Originally based in Paris the Dealership moved to London in 2014 to take advantage of London’s increasingly dynamic position at the center of the international art market.

Paris remains extremely important to the business and the principle  travels there regularly and maintains his invaluable contacts built up over many years.

Main tasks and responsibilities:

  • General Correspondence and administration
  • Liaising with clients, suppliers and any other stakeholders to the business
  • Financial administration on Excel for transmission to accountant. Making and logging payments, receipts, expenses, invoicing etc.
  • Shipping
  • Liaising with restorers Maintaining the stock book Gallery Supplies Maintenance of website
  • Establishing social media channels and creating a social media presence for the business
  • PA duties including personal matters such as bill payments etc

Skills and experience required: 

  • Excellent administrative skills.
  • Computer literate (excellent knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, InDesign and Photoshop would be advantageous)
  • Good communication skills (both written and spoken).
  • A good standard of written and spoken French
  • Well organised, with a good eye for detail and the ability to priorities tasks. Be happy to work alone at times and use strong initiative
  • Enjoy trouble-shooting.
  • Have a genuine interest and education in antiques / Fine Art

This role could suit someone with a few years’ experience who is interested in building an understanding of how a dealership runs and assisting in taking the business forward.

Alternatively it could suit someone who wishes to work part time and has a strong arts based administrative background.
