Job description:

Our client, an established international gallery for Contemporary Art in Berlin is looking for an Finance Manager to join their team (30-40 hours/week).

Please note, GERMAN IS ESSENTIAL for this role!

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare monthly reports
  •  Monitor and manage incoming payments, schedule and produce financial forecast reports
  •  Produce quarterly artist statements, itemizing production cost splits, discounts and reconciling and processing payments to artists
  •  Work with Exhibitions and Technical team to develop budgets for exhibition, art fairs, and artwork productions, tracking actual costs and producing financial reports
  • Continually identify areas of cost savings and negotiate rates with suppliers
  • Review all financial projections, budgets and management accounts
  • Prepare quarterly tax returns and management reports
  • Preparation of year end accounts and liaison with external accountants throughout process
  •  Oversee company insurance policies
  •  Primary point of contact for external accountants and the bank
  •  Manage day to day book-keeping and account reconciliation
  •  Raise sales invoices, including pro forma invoices; strong knowledge of import/export procedures and international sales tax required.
  •  Manage accounts payable: process incoming invoices within credit terms, process payments reconcile supplier statements, raise credit notes
  •  Maintain all accounting records including invoices, expenses, payments and transaction
  •  Preparation of payment runs
  •  Manage company payroll with external finance company

Required skills:

  • Several years of professional experience ideally in the art field at an international level
  • Extensive knowledge of the accounting area,  interest in the international art market desirable
  • Responsible and reliable way of working
  • Forward-looking, constructive and risk-minimizing work behaviour
  • Comprehensive knowledge of common IT applications
  • Proficiency in German and English
