Job description:
A contemporary gallery is looking for a Gallery Director, who can take full operational leadership of the space – running the team, overseeing exhibitions, leading commercial performance, and acting as the day-to-day face of the gallery.
The role empowers the Founders to focus on macro strategy, while the Gallery Director ensures operational excellence and creative execution.
Responsibilities Snapshot
- Lead a high-performance team across sales, ops, marketing, and programming
- Oversee day-to-day gallery operations, budgeting, and internal systems
- Drive sales performance and client relationships (primary & secondary markets)
- Deliver 2–3 major exhibitions per year at the highest quality and commercial impact
- Manage artist relationships and ensure strong retention and satisfaction
- Collaborate with communications team on brand output and storytelling
- Report to founders on financials, growth KPIs, and market positioning
Ideal Candidate
- Senior leadership experience in a blue-chip gallery, auction house, institution, or art-related business
- Proven sales performance, commercial savvy and deep art market fluency
- Strong team-building and operational management capabilities
- Culturally engaged – understands art, fashion, media, and digital trends
- High EQ and gravitas – confident in high-stakes client and artist conversations
- Structured thinker, solution-oriented, fast-moving, brand-conscious
Cultural Fit
The client wants a builder, not a caretaker. Someone who gets why the gallery matters and is excited to shape the next era of the business. This is a fast-paced, high-impact, founder-led environment that rewards clarity, ambition, and drive.
