Job description:

Seeking an experienced, confident and self-motivated Gallery Manager to take over functioning and operations at a small well-positioned Central London gallery. The gallery has an alternative/diverse focus outside the mainstream contemporary sector. It is associated with a well-known and successful international non-profit organisation. The gallery generally presents 5 to 10 shows a year, regularly participates in art fairs (mainly in London) and hosts other events. The ideal candidate will have experience in a similar or comparable role, be extremely self-motivated and clear-thinking. The person should be flexible and friendly, able to work independently or delegate to a larger team, with excellent references and the ability to jump right in.

Desirable attributes, skills and experience include:

  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Efficient with strong attention to detail
  • Must be able to be hands-on or managerial
  • Excellent interpersonal and client facing skills
  • Exceptionally organised and proactive multi-tasker
  • Good computer skills on PC (Office, Outlook) and Apple
  • Fluency with databases, Artlogic, Artsy  etc.

Responsibilities will include: 

  • Gallery administration and coordination
  • Staff management and organisation
  • Exhibition and art fair planning/strategy
  • Writing and/or supervision of artist/exhibition text
  • Management of press, events etc.
  • Supervising/maintaining artwork database
  • Client liaison and sales/interest management
  • Budgeting, forecasting, and reporting approved costs
  • Maintaining relationships with dealers, suppliers etc

Applicants looking for a more directorial role can be considered, provided they have considerable management skills and an interest outside the mainstream contemporary.
