A well-established and broad reaching London Gallery is seeking a Gallery Manager to fulfil a varied and exciting position within a small dynamic team. The role acts as the conduit between the Directors and other more junior members of staff.

The role’s primary focus is on management of the gallery inventory and any associated processes. However, the Gallery Manager should also have a good overview of all aspects of the company, its day-to-day running and occasionally have an inter-changeable role to cover for other staff members when required.

Principal responsibilities will be as follows:

  • Greet and look after visitors to the gallery, showing them around the exhibition spaces and demonstrating knowledge of the gallery’s inventory.
  • Line manager to the junior gallery staff in the upkeep of and general presentation of the gallery.
  • Management of the gallery’s inventory – digital and physical record keeping.
  • Assisting in the management of the business owner’s art collection.
  • Checking physical and online auction catalogues and bringing interesting works of art to the Directors’ attention.
  • Collating all documentation relating to new gallery acquisitions.
  • Liaising with restorers, framers, and fine art specialists.
  • Managing photography of gallery inventory.
  • Managing gallery website, IT system and database.
  • Assisting in art fair planning and logistics, and attending art fairs the gallery is participating in.
  • Assisting in gallery exhibition management.
  • Overseeing upkeep of gallery library and updating library content.
  • Research on gallery inventory, ability to construct factsheets, as well as coordinating with external experts and museums.
  • Assist Directors and senior management as and when required.

Applicants require:

  • Significant art world experience, operating in the secondary market, with thorough understanding of commercial art world processes.
  • Familiarity with auction houses and other art dealerships.
  • Art history background, preferably knowledge of sculpture and Old Masters markets.
  • Client-facing experience.
  • Knowledge of key art-acquiring institutions.
  • To be dynamic, IT and Social Media savvy.
  • Good team player with a sense of humour.
