Seeking a General Valuer to join a fast growing London auction house. Operating from a stunning building in Zone 2, the company is positioning itself as a leading name in the market, with equity options available for the right candidates. As part of this growth, they are seeking an experienced General Valuer to help shape and lead a new area of the business.

The General Valuer will play a key role in building and leading the general art and objects division. This is a unique opportunity for a motivated and commercially-minded auction professional to develop a department from the ground up. The ideal candidate will bring broad expertise in general art and decorative objects, alongside a strong understanding of the auction industry and a talent for cultivating client relationships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Establish and develop a new department with a focus on general works of art, building a client base and market presence.
  • Conduct expert valuations and appraisals across a wide range of items.
  • Manage the end-to-end auction process including sourcing, cataloguing, marketing, and logistics.
  • Work with senior leadership to devise and execute sales strategies for both live and online auctions.
  • Monitor departmental performance, ensuring profitability and effective budgeting.
  • Build and nurture relationships with collectors, consignors, and industry stakeholders to drive business growth.

Candidate Profile:

  • Significant experience in general valuations and the auction sector.
  • Strong track record in business development and client acquisition.
  • Strategic thinker with a hands-on, proactive approach.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
