Our client, a Regional Auction House, is seeking a Handbag Authenticator to join their team. The focus of this role is to provide specialist knowledge and put together an agreed number of Luxury Handbag and Accessories sales per year, and the successful candidate will be responsible for managing the Handbag and Accessories Assistant.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • To lead the department to achieve the expectations of the Directors
  • Authenticate and provide valuations for customers in both a walk-in and online capacity, with a view to consign items to the sale
  • Provide assistance to potential buyers, in person, by telephone or email with any questions and queries regarding the items in the sales. Providing images and videos where required
  • Manage the handbag and accessories department assistant
  • Help with the opening of parcels and sorting of consignments if necessary
  • Ensure listing of items within sale are completed and proofed in line with set schedules
  • Produce accurate and concise condition reports
  • Work closely with the photography team to ensure that all of the lots are photographed by the deadline
  • Co-ordinate with an external printing company to produce a sale catalogue
  • Assist with ticketing and the preparation of the view
  • Set-up for viewings and act as a viewing assistant when required
  • Help with pack up, collections and sending out of goods after the sale
  • To ensure that the Handbag and Accessories Department (and the Auction House) comply with any legal requirements
  • To assist the Marketing Department with a strategy to persuade clients to use the services
  • To assist the Marketing Department with promoting the auctions and assist with blog content
  • To help the Marketing Department to identify key items that may generate publicity providing insight on marketable content within the sales
  • Support Auction House when needed


  • Knowledge of designer brands and interest in the fashion industry
  • Experience of working for an Auctioneers would be ideal however, experience of working for another industry that supports or interacts with high net worth clients would also be suitable
  • Ability to be comfortable with ambiguity and manage an ever-changing list of priorities
  • Exceptional customer service skills, comfortable with interacting with individuals at all levels, internally and externally
  • Commercially aware and takes pride in the quality and standard of their work
