Job description:

An internationally active artist’s estate based in Berlin is looking for a new Head of Estate. Working closely with the artist’s family and galleries, the right candidate will direct the activities of the estate. The Head of Estate will have extensive seniority, management experience, a passion for art and for working as part of a team. Fluency in German is required for this role.

Your area of ​​responsibility includes the following activities in particular:

  • Management and representation of the estate
  • Technical management and supervision of up to five employees
  • Point of contact for the gallery owners and the artist’s family regarding the estate’s conceptual orientation, it’s activities and all other relevant matters
  • Development of ideas as well as planning of the exhibitions in the estate
  • Planning, implementation and control of all areas and processes as well as the projects, publications and events of the estate
  • Point of contact for institutions, artists, art historians, publishers, media and researchers regarding the various projects and enquiries
  • Coordination of restoration, reconstruction and presentations of the artist’s works in the estate and in the institutional context
  • Database management which includes the analogue and digital archives
  • Conception, content management and maintenance of website, newsletter and social media
  • Attending institutional exhibitions and openings
  • Supervision of the exhibitions, including on Saturdays

Your Profile

  • Several years of extensive professional experience in an institutional context and ideally in estate administration at the highest international level
  • A degree in Art History or comparable experience, having a scientific focus
  • Many years of experience with publication projects, ideally with catalogue raisonnés
  • Extensive knowledge of current developments in contemporary art and in the international art market
  • Familiarity with dynamic working environments, ensuring a prudent and forward-thinking way of working and communicating at all times
  • Personal initiative, sense of responsibility, determination, structure and efficiency
  • Confident use of common MAC and Microsoft Office applications
  • Very good written and spoken German and English skills; other foreign languages ​​are desirable
