Job description:

An arts organisation in London seeks a Head of Communications and Marketing to lead the strategic marketing communications and operational delivery of activity of the business. You will define and drive the brand to a range of stakeholders, tailoring messaging and developing marketing campaigns and activity.

You will be a highly experienced marketer, expert at delivering tailored messaging to a range of audiences and markets, including Members, prospects, the art industry and general public. You will be passionate about the importance of excellent marketing communications and have creative ideas for how the organisation’s presence and brand recognition can be further developed locally and globally to support brand awareness, growth and engagement.

The post holder will be responsible for all aspects of the website, content creation, marketing materials to support Membership and hold overall responsibility for brand management and corporate identity. In addition, you are responsible for all social media channels, growing audiences across platforms and driving footfall both online and physically to the organisation.

You are also responsible for the day to day management of the Communications and Marketing Coordinator.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • You will manage the brand to ensure consistent communication of the organisation’s mission and values across all channels and will ensure that the integrity of the brand is maintained and promoted at all times
  • You will develop and oversee the delivery of a corporate communications strategy to build the organisation’s brand and reputation, including writing and editing effective copy
  • You will identify and effectively utilise a range of channels to deliver successful results including above the line, direct and digital marketing
  • You will monitor and measure the effectiveness of all marketing/communications activity
  • You will possess an excellent eye for detail and ensure both quality control and that our brand guidelines are accurately upheld by the organisation, its Members and partners
  • You will manage the marketing budget


  • Manage and implement the strategy for promotion of the Members (print & digital)
  • Oversee and implement the overarching marketing strategy, with specific focus on advancing digital reach
  • Advertising print and digital
  • Management of digital content creation, inclusive of managing third party suppliers such as photographers and videographers
  • Execution of Public & Membership Newsletters
  • Lead generation via SEO, Google AdWords, Facebook retargeting, etc (to be implemented by Marketing Coordinator)
  • Lead generation via marketing campaigns
  • Implementation and review of social media strategy to be executed by Press & Marketing Coordinator
  • Oversee Partnerships (media, local and otherwise) with the support of the Marketing coordinator and Front of House Manager
  • Management of Marketing services offered to members.

Production and updating of all marketing materials including but not limited to:

  • Membership Handbook and related collateral
  • Members’ welcome pack & gifts
  • Coordination of building, exhibition and event photography and videography
  • Print and digital collateral for building (front desk, signage, exhibition maps etc)
  • Create print and digital collateral (invitations ) for VIP events

Website & Portal

  • Project management of website rebuild
  • Communication and management of our digital agency
  • Management of content on Membership Portal
  • Online content generation including but limited to:
    • Membership Profiles
    • Articles
    • Testimonials
    • Exhibition information/What’s on
  • Updating of content (Brochure, Banners )
  • Programme information, covering exhibitions, talks, special events, etc
  • Management of assets (photography, asset generation)

Press & Communications

  • Stewarding of Press agency/consultant and managing the relationship
  • Act as Press liaison working directly with Members’ communications teams
  • Write and distribute all press releases
  • Manage press sponsorships
  • Managing all press queries and requests including the provision of assets and information as required
  • Creating Press opportunities, conceiving press campaigns, managing our press strategy with the support of our press consultant/agency and maintaining brand messaging across all Press
