Job description:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced manager/jewellery specialist to become Head of Department of a large and autonomous department of a leading auction house. You will be responsible for the management and profitable performance of the business unit and will report to the main board.

Key duties:

  • Working with the board to agree the objectives and plan for the department
  • Management and Development of the existing team
  • Working with the team to deliver the business plan
  • Overseeing the consigning for multiple jewellery auctions, including the flagship, fine jewellery sale.
  • Business Development/promoting the company and growing the client base
  • Reporting on the performance of the department to the board
  • Meeting and building relationships with vendors and buyers alike

Key skills for this role:

  • Strong management and leadership skills with a proven track record
  • Valuations experience – ideally jewellery and/or wrist watches
  • Confidence in dealing with clients
  • Organisational skills
  • Good contacts within the jewellery industry
  • Commercial awareness of the auction world
  • Trend awareness within the retail sector
  • Adaptability in a fast-paced environment
  • Good team working skills
  • Communication skills both internally and externally
  • Keen numerical skills
  • Competence in Microsoft Office Suites Job requirements

To be successful in this role you will need to be FGA and DGA qualified, or equivalent and have a proven track record in the management and leadership of a team.
