On behalf of a well established a growing  Auctioneers and Valuers we are looking for a Head of Furniture to join the team. This family-owned business has undergone a modernisation agenda that has placed it as one of the UK’s fastest growing auction houses. Celebrated for delivering exceptional results and an unwavering commitment to customer service the business has a vibrant and dedicated team operating across two locations in an easily accessible part of the North of England. The team is made up of expert valuers across 26 specialist departments, hosting over 150 regular and specialist auctions annually. They offer a forward-thinking, progressive work environment, supported by robust operational and technological processes.

The Role: Head of Furniture

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Head of Furniture to lead the Furniture Department. Reporting directly to the Managing Director, you will oversee the calendar of monthly furniture sales as well as curate and manage four prestigious annual Country House Sales. You will be responsible for cataloguing and valuing items, ensuring the highest professional standards.

Supported by a team of two junior cataloguers, this role will involve working across two locations, with travel between sites required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the department’s monthly sales and curated Country House Sales.
  • Cataloguing and valuing furniture items to a high standard.
  • Valuing items, inhouse and via digital channels
  • Supervising and mentoring two junior cataloguers.
  • Preparing detailed condition reports.
  • Collaborating with other departments to ensure seamless auction processes.
  • Maintaining and enhancing client relationships, ensuring trust and satisfaction.
  • Traveling between sites as needed to fulfil departmental duties.

About You

The ideal candidate will bring passion, expertise, and dedication to this exciting role.

Essential Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong expert knowledge of antique and period furniture, including styles and periods commonly found in the region.
  • Proven experience in a similar role within an auction house or related trade.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with the ability to catalogue and value large volumes of items accurately.
  • Skilled in preparing clear and precise condition reports.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills.
  • Good IT skills
  • Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle.

Desirable Attributes:

  • Knowledge of modern furniture and rugs
  • Experience as an auctioneer is advantageous but not essential.
  • A proactive, team-oriented approach with excellent communication skills.
