Job description:

We are recruiting for a Head of Operations to join the small team in a key role within a newly-established not-for-profit organisation. The person in this role will implement and manage infrastructure, budgets, oversee all aspects of building, exhibition and residency program as well as the pastoral care of the team. The Head of Operations will be responsible for maintenance and facilities of both the exhibition space and the adjoining administrative offices.

This is a newly created role will be placed within the Founding Director’s wider team with the aim to ensure compatibility and consistency across associated ventures. The position is an essential partner to Head of Programmes and will direct a team of vendors, suppliers and art partners to facilitate the smooth-running operations of the space, and implementation of organisational procedures.

Core duties will include (But aren’t limited to):

  • Managing a large renovation project
  • Managing all legal issues and paperwork of the space, including but not limited to the property, the entity, HR compliance and other relevant charity legislative procedures
  • Develop and manage annual budgets, oversee accounting and bookkeeping, file annual financial report and make sure timely submission
  • Buildings, facilities and Vendor Management
  • Implementing HR Policies for the Team
  • Oversee budget and implementation of installation, maintenance, and de-installation of an ambitious exhibition programme as well as occasional site-specific projects with Head of
    Programmes,  and develop and manage budgets for the exhibitions in collaboration with Exhibition team
  • Consult and communicate effectively with internal stakeholders about all phases of the exhibitions cycle, from proposal, to production, installation, maintenance, and de-installation
  • Ensure compliance with HMRC for the movement of artworks, experience of working with a TA / NIRU would be advantageous.

This role is a full-time role Monday-Friday, that may require some work to be undertake outside of scheduled office hours, namely evenings, weekends, and occasionally international travel.

Person Specification:

  • Significant senior-level art gallery/project management experience
  • Experience working with artists, shippers, art installers, architects, accountants and lawyers
  • Thorough knowledge of HR rules and regulations
  • Exceptional communication. interpersonal and team-focused management skills
  • Calm under pressure and excellent problem-solving skills
  • Excellent knowledge of Art Logic and Microsoft Office essential; knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Zero also useful
