Job description:

A widely respected contemporary gallery in London is looking for an HR Manager for a 1 year fixed term contract.


Generalist HR

  • Act as a sounding board and coach to business managers; provide them with exceptional HR support, advice, guidance, skills and tools to proactively manage their teams effectively
  • Ensure HR knowledge is kept up-to-date and accurate; attend employment law seminars etc.
  • Provide guidance to Directors on team structure and design, job descriptions and title changes.


  • Oversee all recruitment activity and spend
  • Develop and maintain active candidate pools for key roles
  • Work with line manager to draft job descriptions, screening lists and interview scripts for recruiting
  • Assist with arranging interviews as required and conduct interviews as required
  • Check visa situation and ensure work permits are in place where necessary
  • Draft and send offer letters from template
  • Oversee salary negotiation process, together with Finance Director and Operations Director
  • Draft employment contract from template and talk over contract with new joiner before signing
  • Manage induction process for new joiners and work with line managers to set up training
  • Develop and manage relationships with external recruitment consultants to gain wider visibility of talent available in the market for senior roles
  • Providing advice, coaching, training and support to line managers on recruitment


  • Manage gallery induction and training programs
  • Manage overall training budget; reviewing and approving training requests
  • Source and develop appropriate training for team managers on recruitment, leadership, etc


  • Manage annual appraisal process
  • Coach line managers on performance management

Employee Relations

  • Provide an open door policy for staff to assist with any employee relations issues
  • Provide mediation/conflict resolution as required
  • Support Directors on morale and employee engagement issues
  • Work with line managers (and legal if required) on any disciplinary issues


  • Ensure all job changes and pay changes are given to payroll each month
  • Data entry into SAGE People of people data; design and running of SAGE reports
  • Support on holiday queries and annual set up of holiday in SAGE for part time workers and LOS awards
  • Manage maternity and paternity issues (i.e. send out letters and talk through policy with staff)
  • Regularly review and update HR documentation / policies
  • Ensure employee files are kept up to date with records of any job or pay changes
  • Provide reporting and management information on salary, LOS, staff numbers, etc
  • Address Flexible Working requests
  • Draft references
  • Manage immigration sponsor license and related responsibilities
  • Carry out all leaver administration
  • Conduct exit interview and feedback key points to Directors to identify trends and ensure response
  • Keep job descriptions up to date
