Job description:

Our client is looking to recruit an Operations Manager to handle all aspects of the day-to-day running of a busy regional auction house with a satellite saleroom.

Role description

As Operations Manager, you will be expected to:

  • Handle all staffing and personnel issues
  • Plan and oversee the daily running of two busy salerooms, organising your team and delegating as necessary to ensure the auction houses are running to maximum efficiency
  • Set clear goals and targets for all staff, and communicate the results accordingly
  • Take responsibility for collecting figures and data from your various teams, and collating it together into reports to present to the MD
  • Push to increase and maintain constant sales growth and profitability in conjunction with the management team

  • Substantial experience of working in a busy UK auction house
  • Proven management experience
  • Proven track record of handling a team of employees
  • Demonstrable understanding of sales targets, results and financials
  • Excellent grasp of IT and technology, and the ability to learn new systems quickly
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with both staff and customers
  • Ability to drive and have use of own vehicle to travel between salerooms


  • Good knowledge of antiques and the ability to work as a general valuer
  • Experience of being a general cataloguer and the ability to catalogue quickly yet accurately
  • Knowledge and experience of timed online auctions
