We are looking for a Photographs, Maps and Archival Material specialist who will also be the Head of Department. Following a successful launch in 2024, this ambitious London-based auction house is entering an exciting phase of growth. With an expanding team and a beautiful premises in Zone 2, they are now looking to develop new departments — and are currently seeking an experienced Head of Photographs, Maps and Archival Material to lead one of these key areas.
This role calls for a seasoned professional with a strong background in both Photographs, Maps and Archival Material and the auction world. The successful candidate will have a passion for Photographs, Maps and Archival Material, a talent for business development, and the leadership skills to shape a thriving department.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and develop the Photographs, Maps and Archival Material department, including the creation of a new client base.
- Lead the valuation and appraisal of items with a high level of expertise and market insight.
- Manage the full auction process, from sourcing consignments to overseeing cataloguing, marketing, and sale execution.
- Collaborate with senior management to design and implement effective sales strategies across online and live auction formats.
- Take ownership of departmental budgeting and performance, ensuring strong financial outcomes.
- Build and maintain relationships with consignors, collectors, and key industry figures to promote the department and business growth.
Candidate Profile:
- Extensive experience in both Photographs, Maps and Archival Material and auction industries.
- Strong commercial instincts with a proven track record in business development.
- Strategic thinker with excellent problem-solving capabilities.
- Confident communicator with well-developed interpersonal skills.
