Job description:

Our client, an international auction house, is seeking a Proposals Writer. The role is based in London and you will report to the Head of Proposals, Europe & Asia.

The primary focus of the position will be to work closely within the Proposals department to assist in proofreading, copy editing and writing of proposals globally. The Proposals department develops business-winning pitches for consignments, through the execution of written documents from an editorial and design standpoint. The team is responsible for overseeing proposal requests from all departments; 20th Century & Contemporary Art, Design, Editions, Photographs, Jewels and Watches.

In addition to working closely within the Proposals team and with the Creative department when required (including designers and production managers), the position may require liaising with a wide range of stakeholders across the company, including senior specialists, the marketing, client intelligence and business departments. The individual must develop a keen ability to formulate and shape narratives within the auction house’s brand, and will be responsible for the production of bespoke documents and presentations (in a variety of formats from digital to hardcopy) for top client business-getting in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Proofread, write, edit, and finalise each section of proposal with the approval of the specialist department
  • Ensure all content is on-brand, consistent in terms of style, quality, and tone of voice
  • Manage and execute the writing, research and execution of these strategies, structuring key points into a cohesive and compelling argument, supported by imagery and infographics where appropriate
  • Work closely with specialist sale teams and marketing managers to present the marketing campaign for high-level business with an emphasis on the client’s storytelling and narrative capabilities
  • Partner with colleagues and internal clients to establish priorities and execute deadlines
  • Manage and execute the creation of supplementary material where necessary, including but not limited to agenda documents, presentations, brochures, packaging, emails, and on-screen presentations
  • Work with the Creative and Production departments to coordinate and manage all aspects of proposal production
  • Manage and complete multiple projects efficiently under time-sensitive deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Perform any other duties as requested

Education, Experience, and Skills:

  • Experienced level (previous roles in the arts, journalism, publishing, advertising, consulting)
  • Excellent writing, editing and business communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail
  • Proven relationship-building skills with internal clients
  • Ability to manage workflows and deliver reliably on deadline
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and produce high quality work
  • Ability to work both independently as well as in a matrixed environment, collaborating with production staff, specialist staff and executive staff
  • Strong analytic skills with the ability to use data to craft a compelling story to help drive winning business
  • Working knowledge of InDesign necessary
  • Work closely with colleagues in the US and Europe, ensuring worldwide coverage
  • Working knowledge of MS office, including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite a plus
  • Ability to learn auction house-specific style and procedures
