Job description:

Our client, a contemporary gallery in London is looking for a Sales Associate to join the team. Reporting to the Sales Director, the Sales Associate will deliver primary and secondary market sales to achieve the required sales profitability. The successful candidate will actively engage in selling pieces from all artists represented by the gallery, perform secondary market sales and nurture and develop the client database. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of contemporary art, proven experience in sales and an understanding of the artistic process.

Responsibilities include:

Sales Strategy

  • Manage primary and secondary market sales from lead generation through to close
  • Build familiarity with artists to sell across the full inventory
  • Create a sales pipeline for primary market exhibitions and ensure clients are approached in a timely manner
  • Identify potential artworks for secondary market purchases, ensure a rolling inventory available
  • Implement sales strategies for existing clients and develop new clients by increasing the client reach of the gallery
  • Follow up offers and maintain an open dialogue with clients, museums and artists regarding available works
  • Place key artworks in important collections through working with clients and museums
  • Ensure effective communication of all offer, loan and reserve details to the Sales team
  • Ensure agreed invoice instructions and post-sale follow up is relayed to the Sales Administrator

Business and Client Development

  • Represent the gallery at industry events across museums, art fairs and auctions
  • Research and develop the gallery client list
  • Set contact strategy for working with key prospective and existing clients
  • Be accountable for keeping own client information up to date in the client database

Other

  • Attend general staff meetings and gallery events as required
  • Undertake other duties as and when required to ensure the smooth running of the gallery
  • Occasional weekend and evening work will be required

Experience Required

  • Considerable experience in sales
  • Comprehensive knowledge of both the Primary and Secondary markets
  • Have an established base of collectors in London with a focus on contemporary art
  • Have a proven network of collectors including relationships with institutions
