Job description:

An Art Advisory is seeking a Sales & Research Assistant to support the Business Director in administrating sales and acquisitions, collection management and shipping arrangements. The individual will be required to conduct important research tasks, (artist, art market and client research) both under supervision and independently, and to ensure all data is correctly presented, filed and updated in the inventory database. The Sales & Research Assistant will support the team as required with EA and office duties, travel planning and itineraries, and bookkeeping.

Main duties:

  • Assist with creating and distributing offer proposals
  • Updating the company’s collection database: contact, inventory, offer logging, and other database input
  • Liaise with private clients, auction houses, commercial galleries, institutions and/or other parties to process sales, acquisitions, loans and consignments
  • Provide registrarial assistance: organising artwork movements, supervising artwork handling, performing internal condition checks, commissioning framing, and other display and conservation needs as required

Other duties to include:

  • Conduct art historical research and writing
  • Produce price analysis and art market research
  • Monitoring market activities of specific artists and presenting new artists for consideration
  • Maintaining the internal auction and exhibition calendars
  • Assist with bookkeeping data input
  • Maintaining the office library
  • Provide administrative and onsite support during exhibitions, projects and events as required
  • EA and office duties, including travel planning for Directors

Successful candidates will have the following attributes:

  • Previous full time, continuous employment in the arts sector
  • A Bachelor’s degree in a related subject
  • Exceptional knowledge and interest in art history, contemporary art and the art market
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Proven organisational and communication skills
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritise and manage tasks
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency with MS Office programs essential
  • Experience using collection/inventory databases, (Artlogic preferred)
  • Knowledge of foreign languages is a plus but not essential
  • Photoshop, InDesign, and Advance Microsoft Excel skills are a plus but not essential
