A rare opportunity has arisen for an experienced and visionary leader to join a market leading and reputable mid-sized fine art auction house based in London. The business has expanded substantially in recent years developing a number of successful specialist departments, including, amongst others Jewellery, Islamic Art, Chinese and Japanese, Modern British Art and many others. With a rich history and a strong commitment to excellence, we are seeking an exceptional candidate. The role is expected to progress towards Managing Director within a short time frame.

As the Senior Business Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the strategic direction of the company, overseeing day-to-day operations, and driving growth and profitability. The ideal candidate will have either a proven track record in the auction industry, or a similar sized SME business. Most importantly you will demonstrate strong leadership skills, business acumen, and ideally a passion, or interest in  fine art, antiques and collectibles.

 Key Responsibilities:

 Strategic Leadership:

  • The business has adapted well to changes in the market and has grown by developing a number of specialist divisions. As the Senior Business Manager you will work with the CEO & Owner to further develop this strategy to take business to the next level.
  • Provide visionary leadership to the team, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence.
  • Identify new market opportunities and areas for business expansion.

Operational Management:

  • Oversee the efficient and effective functioning of all auction house operations.
  • Ensure the delivery of high-quality services to clients, consignors, and buyers.
  • Implement and enhance operational processes to optimise efficiency and client satisfaction.

Financial Management:

  • Develop and manage budgets, financial forecasts, and key performance indicators.
  • Monitor financial performance, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions.
  • Explore revenue-generating initiatives and cost-saving measures.

Client and Stakeholder Relations:

  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with clients, consignors, and key stakeholders.
  • Enhance the auction house’s reputation by providing exceptional customer service and fostering positive experiences.

Marketing and Brand Development:

  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop and implement strategic marketing plans.
  • Enhance the auction house’s brand visibility and reputation through effective marketing and public relations efforts.

Team Leadership and Development & HR

  • Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing team.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive work environment, promoting professional development and employee engagement.

Qualifications:

  • Proven leadership experience ideally within the auction industry.
  • Strong strategic and analytical skills, with the ability to make sound business decisions.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Financial acumen and experience managing budgets.
  • Demonstrated success in team leadership and development.
  • Results-driven with a focus on achieving business goals and objectives.
  • An understanding of art, antiques, and collectibles is desirable

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Art History, or a related field or possibly an accountancy qualification.
  • Extensive experience in a leadership role ideally within the auction industry, or similar.
  • Knowledge of current market trends and industry best practices.
