Senior General Valuer, Established Regional Auction House

We are seeking a Senior General Valuer for an established Auction House in the West Country. The Senior General Valuer will be responsible for the day-to-day oversight of the general sales including the valuations, cataloguing and viewings for Fine Art, Furniture, Professional Valuations and Asian Art. They will also be responsible for the growth and development of the department, engaging new and existing buyers and consignors, and will work with an external Consultant. This role would suit someone looking to step up into a leading role, with good previous experience with a reputable auction house and a good London network.

Responsibilities will include:

Valuations

• Perform valuations for auction, probate and insurance
• Prepare and deliver valuation proposals to secure consignments
• Attending valuation days

Cataloguing

• Oversee the department catalogues and assist with cataloguing as required
• Assist with the production of condition reports

Auctions and Viewings

• Attend and participate in auctions and viewings

Staff Management

• Oversight of the general sales process
• Training and development of staff where appropriate

About you:

• The candidate will have solid experience in a similar role within an auction house
• The ability to drive is essential
• Previous managerial experience is essential
• Highly developed client management skills are essential
• Existing contacts within the market place are essential
• Experience as a Registered Valuer is preferred
• Experience with Fine Art is preferred
• Experience with Furniture is preferred
• Experience with Asian Art is preferred
• Experience Auctioneering is preferred
