Job description:

The Senior Technician (Collections and Incoming Goods) will be responsible for art handling and inventory related activities within both Incoming Goods and Collection areas. The candidate must provide an exceptional level of service to Clients, internal departments and third party suppliers. Additional responsibilities include preparing newly arrived property for photography ‘Shoot on arrival’ through to releasing post-sale property accurately and efficiently to clients and third party suppliers.

Specific duties & responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Manage a team of 2 x Art Technicians, set meaningful KPIs and objectives. Manage ongoing development of high performing team members and ensure appropriate development plans are in place
  • Facilitate art handler training and Inventory Management best practice via company systems
  • Utilise the principals of the 5 S’s, (Sort, Set In order, Shine, Standardise and Sustain) to ensure all warehouses have a very high standard of cleanliness and organisation
  • Collaborate with key internal stakeholders (Specialist Departments, Art Transport etc.) to plan and manage the inbound flow of pre-sale property
  • Work with approved third party warehouse suppliers to ensure excess inbound property can be accommodated for temporary storage or processing prior to onward transportation
  • Manage the inbound booking process for clients and suppliers delivering items for sale or expertise
  • Align leadership with Core Values to champion teamwork and respect key partners, collaborate via regular meetings and discussion, ensuring clarity and transparency of expectations and agreed SLAs
  • Track and monitor KPIs measuring workflow performance metrics such as damage percentages, cycle counting, sustaining 5S and photography on arrival
  • Document requirements and collaborate with the technology group to identify digital solutions needed to streamline the ongoing management of work flow and resource management
  • Perform physical bi-annual stock checks and ensure all managed areas have a 100% item location accuracy
  • Manage warehouse zones to ensure all fine art property is safely and securely stored, this includes removing non-fine art property from the warehouses and ensuring adherence to crate and oversize arrangements
  • Facilitate the movement of property from incoming goods direct to the relevant staging area in preparation for ‘shoot on arrival’
  • Manage and control the flow of products, ensuring all items are tagged and condition checked with all product movement recorded accurately on the inventory management system
  • Report any damages, losses or discrepancies immediately
  • Other duties as assigned by manager

The candidate:

  • Strong ability and experience of people management, coaching and training
  • Ability to investigate, plan and implement new working methods
  • High attention to detail
  • Must have technical expertise and experience in handling works of art, including installation and packing standards
  • Must have experience using collections databases and software (experience with Oracle/JDE based systems preferred but not essential)
  • Ability to work professionally and responsibly with all other areas within the business
  • High degree of organisation with ability to multitask, prioritise, be proactive and follow up promptly
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word and Excel
  • Willingness to accept assignments with positive and dynamic attitude
  • Desire to learn and take on new challenges
  • Adaptable to flexible schedule, with some weekend work as needed, to meet the needs of the business
