Job description:

Our client, an international gallery, is seeking a Shop Associate for its unique pop-up shop in London. The successful candidate will help deliver success through positive and informative engagement with customers, relationship building with vendors, effective management of interns on site, maintaining an impeccable shop and orderly storage of stock, comprehensive bookkeeping, efficient reporting and collaborating with colleagues across departments, including registrars, marketing staff, events and artist liaisons.

Please note that this role is Tuesday to Saturday.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Delivering professional, courteous and helpful service at all times and developing client relationships and guiding less experienced staff to deliver the same
  • Helping to ensure the sales floor is constantly staffed during opening hours
  • Maintaining a high level of cleanliness and order in the shop by ensuring all areas are clean, tidy, organised, and well stocked, managing cleaning team
  • Helping to develop merchandising strategies, coordinate shop events, conceptualise and organise art book fairs
  • Knowledge of ongoing and upcoming exhibitions within the organization in order to identify sales opportunities relevant merchandise and editions
  • Ensure procedures are communicated and executed within set deadlines
  • Liaise with the marketing team to assist with online content to promote the shop and increase customer engagement
  • Review shop invoices to ensure good book keeping- concerning taxes, shipping, returns, credit card transactions, and fraudulent transactions
  • Generate ad hoc reports where required
  • Work on incoming consignment agreements and outgoing returns with registrars
  • Facilitate and record the daily movement of incoming and outgoing artworks within the Shop to the Gallery and third-party storage facilities
  • Perform inventory audits and liaising with registrars to perform database updates
  • Assist with opening and closing procedures
  • Assist in the packing, labelling, and unpacking of all merchandise, posters and books, and packing for customers

Qualifications:

  • Experience in luxury retail management and arts environment
  • Proficient in Excel, POS systems and reporting experience
  • General knowledge of retail sales tax, consignment models, invoicing, and handling of artworks is recommended

Skills and abilities:

  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule as determined by business volume; some late nights for special events, VIP visits and openings will be necessary
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain good relations with customers, vendors and internal departments
  • Possess strong organizational, planning, problem-solving, and operational skills in a team-based, customer-service environment
  • Meticulous attention to detail, the ability to multitask, and a keen awareness of time-sensitivity
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be technologically savvy with the ability to learn new systems quickly
  • The ability to prioritise and multitask in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment
  • Must be available to work a holiday schedule
