Job description:

Our client, an artist’s studio is looking for a proactive, forward-thinking and experienced Studio & Technical Manager with considerable experience, working within a Fine Art field to deliver creative and business support across all operations in London and globally.


Studio Management:

  • Meet the wide-ranging needs of the artist on a day-to-day basis, in particular for the creation of artworks and management of his work space and resources
  • Manage and oversee the installation and deinstallation of artworks in varying materials, sizes and weights adhering to Health & Safety requirements
  • Research suppliers and purchase materials; presenting best quality and best value results
  • Line management of studio technicians and manage the studio team; establishing daily duties and a work schedule on weekly and monthly bases
  • Create and maintain database records of all artworks (in collaboration with registrar); recording accurate locations of incoming/outgoing works with meticulous attention to detail
  • Work alongside Head of Exhibitions on exhibitions, new commissions and installations
  • Check all incoming invoices relevant to fabrication and studio management, as part of the studio-wide accounts payable process
  • Supporting office staff, assisting with their daily needs
  • Manage HR systems; including absence management records
  • Unpack paintings from t-frames, overseeing onsite shippers/stretchers
  • Provide maintenance instructions for artworks
  • Overall knowledge of studio operations and troubleshooting

Facilities Management:

  • Manage commercial properties including service and maintenance scheduling
  • Maintain Health & Safety for all sites; including fire alarm, intruder alarm, fire protection, and co-ordinate annual servicing and maintenance contracts
  • Ensure the studio spaces are maintained to a high standard
  • Manage artwork storage at the studios and off-site locations, working with various art storage and handling suppliers
  • Work with contractors when repairs and improvements to the studio are required
  • Assist with preparation of the space for events in the studio, of varying sizes
  • Maintain company vehicles (x 2); arranging insurance, tax and parking permits and congestion charging subscriptions. Driving the vehicles when required
  • Manage and maintain studio resources and IT systems including; maintenance of printers, phone systems, mobile phone contracts, dedicated internet line and VOIP
  • Order supplies both for artist and office
  • General housekeeping


  • Work with external fabricators and specialists to manage development and production of new artworks
  • Communicate with fabricators to obtain quotations for costs and timeframes of artworks
  • Procure materials for fabrication of all artworks made within the studio, and where necessary liaise with off-site fabricators researching new materials.
  • Co-ordinate the shipment of artworks (in collaboration with registrar)

Full driving license is essential for this role.
