Our client is looking for a Valuer and Auctioneer to join the team in Cumbria. The role of Valuer and Auctioneer reports directly to the saleroom manager.
Our client holds monthly Antiques and Works of Art sales which comprise over 500 lots of antique furniture, gold, silver, jewellery, clocks and watches, Oriental and Asian works of art, paintings both traditional and contemporary, pottery, porcelain. There is also a very well established antiquarian book department.
Collectors’ Sales are held bimonthly and typically comprise of coins, banknotes and exonumia, medals and militaria, toys, dolls and model railways, postcards, stamps, cigarette cards and ephemera, fishing tackle, sporting effects and instruments, ethnic, tribal and eastern arts and whisky, wine and spirits. Home furnishings and interiors sales are held fortnightly. A typical sale will comprise between 400 and 600 lots of decorative ceramics, books, vintage trunks and cases, 20th century design, furniture, rugs, collectables, glassware, lamps, pictures and other goods. Antiquarian and Collectable book auctions are held monthly.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- Assisting around the saleroom
- Preparing for and participating in viewing day
- Cataloguing all items for sale
- Dealing with pre-sale enquiries
- Post-Sale administration
Experience:
This role may suit a recent graduate, or someone who has some previous work experience in a similar environment and is looking to build or further their career in the auction industry.
Hours:
The business generally operates on the basis of Monday-Friday 9am-5pm but sale and viewing days require longer hours and there is the occasional weekend.
