Wristwatch Specialist
We are partnering with an ambitious, London-based auction house that was established in 2024 and is now entering an exciting phase of growth. With an expanding team, impressive Zone 2 premises, and plans to develop a number of specialist departments, the business is now seeking an experienced Wristwatch Specialist to establish and lead its Watches department.
This is a rare opportunity for an entrepreneurial specialist to build a department from the ground up, shaping its direction, developing a loyal client base, and playing a key role in the continued growth of an exciting new auction house.
The successful candidate will combine exceptional technical knowledge of the wristwatch market with strong commercial instincts, excellent client relationship skills, and a proven ability to win business.
The Role
You will take ownership of creating and developing the Watches department, with responsibility for growing revenue, securing consignments, and delivering successful auctions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Establishing and developing the Watches department, building both its reputation and client base.
- Generating consignments through proactive business development and networking with collectors, dealers, and private clients.
- Conducting valuations and appraisals with confidence, accuracy, and market insight.
- Managing the full auction process, from sourcing consignments and cataloguing through to marketing and sale execution (auction timetable to be agreed).
- Working closely with the senior leadership team to develop effective sales strategies for both live and online auctions.
- Taking ownership of departmental budgets, revenue targets, and overall commercial performance.
- Building long-term relationships with consignors, collectors, and key industry contacts.
- Helping to position the Watches department as a recognised destination within the market.
About You
You will be an experienced wristwatch specialist with a strong commercial focus and a passion for building a successful department.
Ideally, you will have:
- Significant experience specialising in wristwatches, preferably within the auction industry.
- A proven track record of winning consignments and generating revenue.
- Strong commercial awareness and an entrepreneurial approach.
- Excellent knowledge of the international wristwatch market.
- Experience in valuations, cataloguing, and presenting watches for sale.
- Outstanding client relationship and negotiation skills.
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively to a collaborative leadership team.
- Experience using online auction platforms would be advantageous.
