Artist Liaison, Established Contemporary Gallery

Our client, an established gallery for Contemporary Art, is looking for an experienced Artist Liaison.

Main areas of responsibility:

Artist Liaison

• • First point of contact for assigned artists and their studios in gallery structure; establishing intensive relationship with the artist and providing a supportive structure
  • Negotiation of conditions of cooperation with artists
  • Selection, procurement, production and definition of works of art for sale; inventory management; preparation of sales material and support to Sales Team
  • Development of the career/sales strategy of artists in cooperation with management
  • Mediation and promotion of artists with curators, museums and institutions, including travel to exhibition openings

Inventory Management

• • Consignment agreements: procuring consignment agreements and overseeing their administration in collaboration with Registrar and Cataloguer
  • Artwork definition: defining edition and price; responsibility for thorough and accurate inventory record, artwork description and artwork documentation
  • Production of new works: monitoring of production of new works, budget negotiation with artist, budget control
  • Sales material: preparation of sales material in collaboration with backoffice team
  • Sold works: responsibility for timely and smooth delivery of sold works with complete components, installation manual, and certificate, in collaboration with Deliveries Registrar
  • Loan agreements: communication with institution, coordination and administration of loan agreements in collaboration with Registrar
  • Filing documents: on server and physical binders (artworks and projects, maintenance of gallery archive)

Artist Accounts

• • Artist payments: responsible for correct accounting and timely payment of artist share in close collaboration with the Artist Account Manager (statements, payment overviews)
  • Production costs: responsible for negotiation, registration in Artlogic and monitoring of production costs and other investments of the gallery
  • Yearly artist accounts: coordination and sending of yearly artist account overview (preparation in close collaboration with Artist Account Manager)

Project Management

Independent management of different projects such as external and internal exhibitions with the artists/studios and in close collaboration with the back-office team

• • Development of exhibition concept in collaboration with artist and management
  • Responsibility for production of project in collaboration with back-office team
  • Negotiation of budgets with artist
  • Responsible for budget control and accounting of respective projects incl. profit-loss calculation

Requirements

• A degree in art history or equivalent
• Several years experience as an Artist Liaison
• English business fluent essential, German knowledge is a plus
• Excellent written and verbal communications skills
• Excellent organisational and project management skills
• Ability to thrive, prioritise and multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Knowledge of art work production and experience in developing and producing complex projects and exhibitions
• Knowledge of and passion for contemporary art and the gallery’s represented artists
• Proficiency in Mac, Microsoft Office suite, including Excel and Word
• Knowledge of Artlogic database is a plus
