Our client is a leading firm of Fine Art Auctioneers and Valuers in the North of England and one of the largest independent auction houses in the UK. Due to growth in the business they are seeking an experienced General Valuer and/or Specialist to join the their well-respected team. About the role:
Most new consigners come by recommendation from existing clients or professional advisers. Based in a large, purpose built premises, the working environment is a bright and airy state-of-the-art international buying and selling facility. In recent years the company have set world records in a number of collecting areas. Specialists offer an excellent personal service which, combined with careful marketing and a deep understanding of the world of art and antiques, ensures the best possible client experience.
The company has embraced digital technology and offer live online bidding to complement the telephone bidding and other services on all sales, of which there are more than 40 per year. These include specialist categories such as British and European Pictures, Modern Art, Asian Art, Ceramics & Glass, Coins, Watches, Scientific and Musical Instruments, Militaria, Furniture, Works of Art, Comics and Sporting Memorabilia.
This key, full-time position would involve the ability to value and catalogue a range of art, antiques and collectables. Other responsibilities would involve valuations for probate and insurance, client development and other duties before, during and after sales.

The ideal candidate will be energetic and personable, with good communication skills. Good attention to detail and the ability to work within a team is essential.
A competitive salary package is offered based on experience and relocation expenses can be negotiated.
Responsibilities:
- Dealing with pre-sale and post-sale enquiries
- Cataloguing and valuing
- Production of condition reports
- Attend and participate in auctions and viewings
- Auctioneering as and when appropriate
- Pre- and post-sale administration
Experience required:
- A good generalists with some previous valuation experience, ideally as a General Valuer in a similar role, although all levels of experience will be considered
- Specialist knowledge is of interest but is not a requirement
- Rostrum experience is not required but is welcomed
- IT Literate , ability to type correspondence, deal with on-line platforms, type up valuations etc.
- Full driving licence
- An ability to multi-task and prioritise a busy workload in order to meet deadlines is essential
