Our client is one of the UK’s largest Fine Art Auctioneers and a highly respected regional family business employing more than 100 staff, they are seeking a Senior Pictures Specialist to join the team. From its headquarters in a beautiful part of the North of England the business holds more than 80 auctions each year across the full spectrum of Antiques and Fine Arts as well as collecting disciplines such as Coins, Books, Militaria etc. There are specialist valuers across 27 departments which have a good reputation for service and results. Sales regularly achieve a 90% + sold rate and there is a healthy pipeline of consignments across the business.
The business operates from state-of-the-art salerooms, close to major transport links. Kings Cross is two and a half hours via the East Coast Mainline.
The company is friendly with little hierarchy and there is plenty of scope for the right person to progress the department. The Senior Pictures Specialist should be capable of taking on responsibility for six dedicated Pictures sales each year – 3 British, European and Sporting Art and 3 Country House Sales. In addition to this, there are fortnightly Antiques and Interiors sale, each with a picture section covering Modern and Traditional pictures.
The Department
- There are currently four staff in the department
- Given the strength of the pipeline of business, the role is about cataloguing rather than business getting.
- In addition to auctions, the Pictures Department has organised and hosted non-selling exhibitions with works loaned from private collections and institutions.
