About the Employer
An internationally recognised commercial art gallery specialising in early twentieth-century Austrian and German art is seeking an experienced and highly organised Gallery Manager to join its close-knit team. The gallery works with an established international network of private collectors, museums, and institutions, and regularly participates in leading international art fairs.
This is a varied, hands-on position suited to a proactive individual who enjoys working across all aspects of gallery operations, including client liaison, sales administration, logistics, exhibitions, and international art fairs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage pre- and post-sale administration, including invoicing, condition reports, provenance documentation, and client correspondence.
- Coordinate domestic and international shipping, customs documentation, import/export procedures, and insurance arrangements.
- Liaise with fine art shippers, framers, conservators, and other specialist suppliers.
- Assist with the planning, organisation, and installation of gallery exhibitions.
- Coordinate logistics and administration for major international art fairs, including occasional overseas travel.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and artwork documentation.
- Prepare artwork information, cataloguing, and supporting materials for exhibitions and clients.
- Deliver a high standard of client service, responding to enquiries from private collectors, museums, and art advisers.
- Support diary management, exhibition planning, and the day-to-day administration of the gallery.
- Work closely with the Director to ensure the smooth running of gallery operations.
Candidate Profile
The successful candidate will have:
- Previous experience within a commercial art gallery or fine art business.
- Demonstrable experience managing both pre- and post-sale administration.
- Strong knowledge of fine art shipping, logistics, customs procedures, and international transport.
- Experience supporting major international art fairs.
- Excellent organisational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- The ability to prioritise multiple projects and work independently within a small, collaborative team.
- A professional, discreet, and client-focused approach.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Fluency in both English and German (essential).
- An interest in twentieth-century European art would be advantageous.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and experience using gallery database systems.
