An established and highly regarded auction house is seeking a General Valuer to join its growing team. Specialising in the sale of jewellery, coins, antiques, clocks, ceramics, fine art, glass, books, furniture, and a wide variety of collectibles, the business hosts a busy calendar of specialist and antique auctions both in person and online.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced valuer to join a fast-paced environment where every day brings new challenges. The successful candidate will play a key role in researching, valuing, and cataloguing a diverse range of items for auction, ensuring accuracy and attention to detail throughout the consignment process.
Key Responsibilities
- Research, value, and assess a broad range of items, determining authenticity, provenance, condition, and market value.
- Carry out additional research where required, liaising with senior valuers and auctioneers as appropriate.
- Prepare accurate catalogue descriptions and condition reports.
- Support the acquisition of new consignments to help drive business growth.
- Deliver excellent customer service, working closely with colleagues and clients throughout the auction process.
- Assist during viewing and auction days, including clerking duties when required.
- Complete post-sale administration, including vendor statements, collections, and management of unsold lots.
- Provide support across the wider business as needed.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will have previous experience valuing and cataloguing items within an auction house or similar environment. Experience valuing jewellery would be advantageous but is not essential.
They will also:
- Be an excellent communicator with the confidence to build strong relationships with clients.
- Thrive in a busy environment, managing multiple priorities and meeting deadlines.
- Be proactive, adaptable, and equally comfortable working independently or as part of a team.
- Have exceptional attention to detail and strong written communication skills.
- Ideally have experience using auction software, including the Easylive Auctions platform.
