General Valuer, Regional Auction House

Our client, a regional Auction House in the South West, is seeking a General Valuer to join their small, friendly and professional team. Their auctions comprise high quality antiques, works of art, silver, jewellery and collectors items.

Overview of the role:

• To represent the business to clients in a professional and friendly manner. Communicating with our customers, listening to their requirements, and promoting the business and its services to them, thus securing consignments and maintaining the company’s good reputation
• To carry out valuations for auction, at valuation days, at the saleroom, and at clients’ homes
• To carry out probate valuations
• To catalogue items ready for sale
• To help to prepare auction lots ready for viewing, this will include lifting heavy objects
• To communicate with the rest of the team to ensure that our customers’ requirements are understood and fulfilled
• To contribute ideas and suggestions that will move the firm forward for the benefit of customers and the company
• To be part of the auctioneering team on sale-days, along with our other three auctioneers

Person description:

• Experience: Valuer and Cataloguer with experience of carrying out professional valuations and visiting clients in their own homes to do valuations for sale, and working in all aspects of an auction room, or a Junior Valuer and Cataloguer who is ready to move up to this next level
• Knowledge: A broad knowledge of Antiques, Mid 20thC Design, Works of Art and Collectors Items; an understanding of how to identify quality objects, and how and where to carry out any necessary research. Someone with an area of interest or specialism that could be developed as part of our business; knowledge of pictures or collectors items would be ideal
• Personal qualities: Enthusiastic, smart-working, personable, and a good communicator; well organised, with excellent attention to detail, happy to roll sleeves up and muck in, including lifting, carrying, and helping to load/unload a van
• Computer literate
• Driving licence
